Session: Servant leadership: helping your team grow and shine
Are you an engineering team leader or manager or, perhaps, you aspire to become one in the near future? Then this practical session can help you to hit the ground running! I’ll share valuable tips from my experience in building a team of engineers through an organisational change. In the last year, many tech companies, large or small, went through reorganisations in order to scale, while staying nimble. As a leader, we’re expected to execute in an agile way, while building and consolidating the most important assets of any company: their people and the relationships within teams. From day one, I had a full backlog. But one of my main reasons to move to people management was helping others to grow and shine. Indeed, I did and do believe that an effective team is built from a cohesive team of empowered individuals whose collective power is greater than the sum of the parts. So I prioritised their individual personal development and building the team dynamics from day one. How did I achieve that with day-to-day commitments? There’s no magic formula, of course, but learning from practical examples helps enrich our perspective. So join me and let’s cover together this essential topic in team leadership through the journey of consolidating and growing the team to double its size!
Bio
Engineering team leader with a mixed background in industry and academy (PhD holder). Professional experience in several tech stacks (Java / Spring, C++, python).
I love as much problem abstraction (aka puzzles), understanding and having and impact in the business (aka big picture thinking) and coaching & mentoring others. Strong believer that a collaborative and diverse team can achieve solutions than the sum of individuals cannot. Curious, fast learner, persistent, will challenge when something does not seem right and will encourage my team to do the same, in particular, when they do not agree with me.
